Am I Eligible?



Youth are eligible if he/she is a foster youth or probation foster youth and between your 16th and 21st birthday, AND

  • youth in a court-ordered foster care/suitable placement under LA County DCFS or probation supervision and age 16 or older, OR

  • youth in a former LA County DCFS foster or probation foster youth who was in foster care/suitable placement after the age of 16, OR

  • youth in a former DCFS foster youth or probation foster youth who resides with a related legal guardian who is currently receiving Kin-Guardian Assistance Payment (Kin-GAP) (Note: All youth ages 16 up to 21 are eligible in this category regardless of the age of the youth when court jurisdiction was terminated), OR

  • youth in a former DCFS foster youth or probation foster youth adopted after your 16th birthday, OR

  • youth who ran away from placement are ready to receive services.

The Youth Development Program receives a set budget every year from state and federal government sources.  Resources are distributed according to need and not as an entitlement. Since the budget is limited, please note that the services and benefits described in this website are available to eligible transitioning youth 16 - up to their 21st birthday in Los Angeles County, on a needs-basis, until all funds are spent for the fiscal year (the fiscal year ends June 30th).  There are some services available for youth 14 - 15.  Some of the resources are listed for your information and ARE NOT to be considered an endorsement by Los Angeles County.
