Pay for Your Job Expenses!



You've got to spend money to make money. You can't show up for an office job wearing a T-shirt and shorts. No way.  You might need to pay for parking.  You might have to pay professional fees or annual union dues. To help launch your career and get you off on the right foot, the Emancipation covers some job-related expenses. EP will pay for:

  • Computers, printers, software.  (the Program is not funding this effective March 2004.)
  • Computer Training. Take one-day workshops in Windows, Excel, Word, or Access.  (the Program is not funding this effective March 2004.)
  • Tuition for Training (see Education section).
  • Uniforms, tools, union dues, professional fees.
  • Transportation. If you're already employed or still looking for a job, get assistance for parking and local transportation.

Who is Eligible:
  • All ILP eligible youth seeking work or currently working.

How to Apply for Service:
  • Contact your CSW or DPO and Transition Coordinator with specific, documented requests that verify educational, vocational, or employment-related need for services or equipment.
  • Provide receipts and written cost estimates upon request.

The Youth Development Program receives a set budget every year from state and federal government sources.  Resources are distributed according to need and not as an entitlement. Since the budget is limited, please note that the services and benefits described in this website are available to eligible transitioning youth 16 - up to their 21st birthday in Los Angeles County, on a needs-basis, until all funds are spent for the fiscal year (the fiscal year ends June 30th).  There are some services available for youth 14 - 15.  Some of the resources are listed for your information and ARE NOT to be considered an endorsement by Los Angeles County.
