4. Case Closing and Ready for Your Own Place?

Paying Rent & Setting Up Your Own Place:

Finding a place of your own is exciting. And expensive.  Even if you can handle the monthly rent, moving is filled with all kinds of hidden costs. Apartment managers want a security deposit. Utilities companies charge hook up fees. You may have to rent a truck. It all adds up. And up. To help you get started, Rental Assistance from the Youth Development Services can assist you cover the costs.  It is important to remember though, that Rental Assistance is for a youth who is responsible and can take care of him/herself.

You can use the money to rent your own apartment, share a house, live in a dorm, or pay room rental to former foster parents and relative caregivers, for up to a 6-month period.

Rental Assistance will also help you cover utility deposits, moving expenses, food, and other basic household set-up costs.
